Many students are now leveraging these apps to circumvent the worst of the college hookup scene. Yet, online platforms also introduce new challenges. Women and racial and ethnic minorities, in particular, resent how the disinhibitory effect of cyber-communications can expose them to a wide range of racialized and sexist online interactions. However, dating apps give these students greater control over partner choice empowering them to set the context of a first meeting, which is a unique advantage of online dating that tempers the negatives for many of those we interviewed.

Despite their drawbacks, these new technologies have the potential to make college intimacy not only safer but also more fulfilling for a larger cross-section of students than traditional hookup culture.

Quarantine is not the prime time for dating, but as horny and lovelorn college students, we must take what we can get, wherever we can get it.

Dating can be hard, and finding someone to date can be even harder, especially in a big college like the University of Georgia.

Dating apps have become an option for people to meet more people in a less conventional way, and the negative stigma behind these apps are changing. Perhaps the views behind dating apps are changing because people have become more exposed to the idea of it. According to the Pew Research Center in , a lot of people did not know much about online dating, and those who did thought online dating was not a great way to date.

However, by , the PRC found the attitudes towards online dating blossomed to be more positive. The researchers attributed the change to be because more people now know more people using dating apps, and so people are more accustomed to the idea.
